January 2012 – What goes on behind the scenes of Pug Rescue?

You may wondered how a community based foster care networks, which our organisation is one of, operate.  Unlike a pound or a shelter we do not have kennels, a shelter or even an office.  Instead the pugs that come into our care are welcomed into the family homes and the hearts of our amazingly selfless volunteers who care for our special breed whilst they are physically and mentally rehabilitated and matched to a perfect forever home no matter how long that journey may take.

Recently as part of  The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive two of our beautiful pugs, Roy & Fez, featured in ’Underdogs’, a documentary following 5 dogs from homelessness to hopefully forever loving homes.  ‘Underdogs’ aims to create awareness, bust myths about homeless dogs, inspire people to adopt and also show people the journey dogs take when they enter into a community based foster care networks foster care program.

20/11/2010 -Don’t let the Victorian government shut us down!

We need your help!  You know that we are a valuable and viable part of the Victorian animal welfare system. Sadly the Victorian Government can not see our worth and  is preparing new legislation which we believe will shut down rescue organisations, such as ours, that run foster care programs. We need you to be a voice for our past, present and future pugs.
You have seen the many pugs lives we have saved and transformed.  So many of these pug would not be with us to day if our foster based rescue organisation did not exist.  Many of you remember Frankie who came to us with life threatening demodex mange in January of this year  ”Frankie’s photos & story” We gave him a chance he would not have been given anywhere else.  Due to foster care and community support Frankie’s life was saved. If it’s a pug and it breaths we will take it into our care and provide it with every chance to live no matter the time or finances this may take.  Fostering saves lives.

4/8/2010 – ‘Puppy Farm Awarness Day Rally’ Sunday 19th September

Now is your chance to be a voice for the thousands of dogs imprisoned in Victorian Puppy Farms.

Help send a strong message to the State’s political leaders that we will not tolerate the factory farming of our companion animals.

Join PUG RESCUE & ADOPTION VICTORIA INC. and other likeminded organisations on the steps of Parliament House on Sunday 19 September at midday, ’Puppy Farm Awareness Day’.

Pencil this date in your diary, and invite everyone and every dog you know to come along and stand up for all dogs in puppy factories and support Oscar’s Law.

Speakers to include -    Derryn Hinch,   Moira Rayner (Lawyers for Animals)  &  Debra Tranter

For more information please visit -   www.oscarslaw.org    Prisoners For Profit – The Truth Behind The Pet Shop Window

Watch this space and our Facebook Page as further details on the event will follow!

We look forward to seeing you and your pugs there!!.

11/5/10 – Support Oscar’s Law to outlaw factory farming of companion animals!

Oscar’s law is a very simple campaign: it enables everyone to make a stand and tell the Government that “We do not want companion animals factory farmed anymore” and “We no longer want the pet industry to mislead us about what is acceptable for our pets”.

You can help fight the genocide in Australia’s pounds, promote rescue organisations and no kill shelters as the first option to adopting, and change the way Australia gets their pets. Adoption is the intelligent alternative to impulse buying. No puppy factory whether it is “clean”, “model”, “state of the art” or otherwise is the answer for mans best friend.

7/5/10 -Frankie Update 12

Frankie, the cheeky pug, visited his vet again last week.  Another skin scraping was performed which again was negative to demodex mites.  He will continue his daily oral dasage of Moxidectine for the next month and twice weekly Malaseb baths for the next few months.

We would again like to take the opportunity to again thank everyone that has donated to help us cover some of Frankie’s medical costs.  Your donations enabled us to pay for the emergency eye surgery Frankie required to save his eyes.  Not having to worry about how to pay for bills such as this is a great relief.

We would also like to thank everyone who, in general, has donated their time, goods or  financially to us with special thanks to Belinda from Mornington Lodge Pet Resort  for her extra special donation.  Without the ongoing help and support of the massive pug loving community, we know exists, we would not be able to continue to provide our much needed service.

26/3/10 -Frankie Update 11

Frankie saw his vet, Kent from Knox Vet clinic, today.  Another skin scraping was performed and there were no mites to be found.

After two months of treatment with antibiotics Frankie has no signs of infection. Antibiotics have now been discontinued.  We will continue with the daily dose of 1.8ml of Moxidectine orally for at least the next two months.

The daily Cyclosporine eye drops also seem to be doing their job. The pigmentary keratitis (brown scarring caused by the eye injuries) in both of Frankie’s eyes has not spread and may even be decreasing.

In two months time we will reassess Frankie’s health.  At this time we will make a decision about when he can be desexed and have his eye openings reduced, which will help prevent any further injuries occuring to his eyes .
